Write Me A Song
by unathi nopece

Write me a song, you said
What song I asked
Any, you answered
So I wrote of folktales untold
I wrote of heroes, old as the earth itself
I wrote about histories through the eyes of the innocent
I wrote of past lives so the future could reflect on them
and learn from them.

But that wasn't enough

Write me a song, you said again
But I already did, I said
So write me another one, you said
And so I did
I wrote all about love in my time;
how it can be the driving force of the universe and the
breaking point of one's sanity.

I wrote of lost loves and loves reaffirmed in times of loss.
And again that wasn't enough.
But write me a song, you still said
I can't, I said
Why not? you asked
Because my songs are never enough
Heroes, folklore and stories of the past do not suffice
Love, in its true nature, is so broad that I cannot possibly
capture its meaning for you.

Ok, you said
Then walked away
I found you some time later and said: "Write your own song."
I can't you said
Why not? I asked
I just can't, you said
Only you can write what you'd like to hear, I said
Only you can capture the true meaning of your feelings
and adequately narrate your own life.

I can show you how to write like me
but only you can write like you
Only you can write your own song.
