thesoil

seven days of the soil

With God on the forefront of this trio, they continue to climb the highest echelons of success.

Preferring a capella; snapping their thumbs and tapping their feet as if their bodies were musical instruments bequeathed to them at birth. This is what makes this collective stand out.
Their unique medley of talents has earned them a lot of recognition in the media, as they have made appearances on numerous TV shows such as All Access (Mzansi Magic), Crazy World Live (e-TV), Late Night with Kgomotso (SABC2). They have also been profiled in Grocott’s Mail; South Africa's Oldest Independent News Paper.

The Soil is shifting and reshaping the music scene as they continue to amaze, bagging awards everywhere they go. Recently they won the Standard Bank Standing Ovation Award as well as the Enchoe Award at the National Arts Festival.
Those who have seen them live will attest to their awesome presence on stage.
The melancholy of piano keys and humming vibrations of guitar strings seem unnecessary to them as they give rise to fresh a cappella sounds, ascending from the depths of their souls.
If you listen with your ear on the ground you might hear the sound.

And now dear children, go forth and tell all wise enough to listen; this is the story of how Kasi Soul was born.

Below are a few interesting tidbits about The Soil.

The cover songs they love singing:
Songs from the 60's because we somehow feel as if we were there in spirit when the likes of Bra Hugh and Miriam Makeba were at their prime.
Songs from the era include Joy, Baninzi and Sunday as they are loved by their followers, possibly owing to the fact that they are feel-good songs that probes one to get up and dance like they did in Sophiatown back in the '60's.

Their major musical influences:
Buhle: Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Busi Mhlongo and Simphiwe Dana.
Ntsika: Adele, Amy Winehouse and John legend.
Phindo: Miriam Makeba, Coldplay and One Republic.

The trio have known each for over 10 years, long before they formed The Soil.

They would rather be stuck in a lift with:
Buhle: My boyfriend.
Phindo: My girlfriend.
Ntsika: Simphiwe Dana. I bet we would come up with three heavenly songs by the time they got rescue us.

The Soil would like to be remembered by what they were blessed with; the melodic medication with which they continue to heal people's souls.
