goldenmicsessions2011

frequently asked questions

This year marks the third GMS since 2007. Although it has started out as one thing and been developed and evolved into something greater, the GoldenMic remains a showcase for talented and unsigned artists and performers from around the country.
Having been hosted in East London twice, in 2007 and 2009, the organisers and their partners have acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in regards to the best ways to promote all those that participate, on stage and behind the curtains. So, in order to give all the important information, we have chosen to answer some of the frequently asked questions.

Q: So, where is the GMS going to be hosted?
A: Port Elizabeth aka eBhayi aka The Windy City which is somewhere between Despatch and Uitenhage in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolis.

Q: Who gets to perform?
A: Those who register and are chosen to perform.

Q: That’s helpful. How do I register and how do you choose?
A: There’s a link you click on. That’s the nature of links; you can click on them. This particular one will lead you to a page with a pdf registration form which you can download or alternatively use to apply online. Click here to get to it.
Now, once all registrations have been received and the cut off date has passed, all those that have been chosen will be given the opportunity to cement their place to perform on the day.

Q: Cement their place, how?
A: Each individual that has registered and chosen to perform will pay R20. With this money each performer/group will be given a one page profile in the GMS magazine which will be handed to all audience members on the day as well as be able to enter for free at the after party.

Q: There’s an after party
?
A: Yes, there’ll be an after party but, performers under the age of 18 will not be permitted to attend.

Q: On the last two GMS’ you have transported and accommodated performers from Port Elizabeth. What will happen now that the GoldenMic is in PE?
A: Of course, there’ll be no transporting of PE based performers, instead we will be taking 5 performers from East London and another 5 from Grahamstown, en route and whatnot to the GMS in PE.

Q: Will these performers also have to pay the R20 per person that all others are?
A: All performers are getting pretty much the same deal. The 10 performers from EL and GHT will not have to pay extra for the transport and accommodation.

Q: What type of performances will be hosted at the GoldenMic?
A: All types from hip hop to poetry, dance to live bands, to duos and groups. The stage is open to innovative and creative expression of all forms. Make sure that the description of your performance is given in full detail on the registration form, including nature of instruments and total number of performers on stage.

Q: There’s never been prize money before. What’s different now?
A: There is R10 000 that will be shared among the top three winners. There is more than one way to support artists out there, money is merely an added bonus. This remains all about the showcase.

Q: What if I need more information?

A: Contact us through the form here or call on 0826730718.
