SPIRIT COME ALIVE
- by Nomaphelo Mdwesa

Oh, spirit come alive
To those who close their
Doors to the victims of rape
Yes please, do come and enlighten them, so they can see what is happening.
Come spirit,
Come and haunt the so called holy proctors
Who are horrified by the HIV pandemic?
For they cannot even preach about it.

If only our spirit were to come alive
We would not fear one another.
If only our consciences could speak in a humanised humble manner
Peace will then occupy our space.
If only our spirit would come alive
None would throw away food whilst others starve.

Oh, spirit come alive
To the young vibrant teenage girls
Who think that having old men with money is the best way to live.
Come alive to the killers who destroy with no compromise
Giving no condolences to the families.
If only we could all reach out to those that are dispirited
If only we would offer a little of what we have,
Then, we would be wonderful people.

Come alive
To the slow sleepy leaders who guide us in the wrong direction,
Shake the roots of those who think all is better, because it isn’t.

I, the young black queen
The young child of the black nation
Proclaim it is our responsibility to make a change
For a change, as our fathers have done their part.

For, fear will only demolish our determination
In this dull dirty place
Oh, it will only leave us dancing in blood.

Now I say
Spirit come and save us all.
