I TRIED
- by Xolisa N.

I tried to look, but could not stare
For my great understanding could not bare
And yet, I tried
To reach out.
I could not touch.
Tried to acknowledge
But could not understand
For them critics
Were getting out of hand.
And yet I tried.
I tried.
...
I tried to cherish
And embrace
For those livid nobles
Would not grant me grace.
They looked so childish
Like rich men
In want of everything.
...
I wanted to sing
Yet the words eluded me
And yet I tried
In the slow passing of time.
I tried to forget you
My heart would not let me to
For hope was cited beyond,
My love.
And yet
I tried
- I tried.
